An ABA lobbying group is proposing a National Autism Strategy to the federal government. The proposed ‘strategy’ involves funding only Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and having it managed by big ABA institutions, while excluding the voice of autistic self-advocates and eliminating CHOICE for families that could include other respectful, evidence-based, developmental supports, approaches and therapies. The proposal does not represent the needs of autistic people in Canada.
Let’s tell our MP that we are not in favour of a strategy that doesn’t understand autism from the perspective of disability and accommodation and instead is run by lobbyists. ABA is not ‘the only evidence-based practice’ for autism. Canadians deserve to have CHOICE for supporting their families. Please email your MP!
